Q.    What is Breast Lifting?

A.    Manipulating the skin and breast tissue of the breast to achieve a desired, lifted, and more youthful breast appearance.

Q.    How is breast lift surgery done?

A.    Depending on the skin, breast tissue, and nipple position, breast lifting involves excising excess skin, lifting the breast tissue internally, and placing the nipple in a more upward position.  If the woman has too little breast tissue to accomplish this, she may also need a breast implant to assist in volume restoration.

Q.    What is the recovery period like?

A.    The patient will need 7 to 10 days off to recover. There is to be no heavy lifting (greater than 10 lbs), pushing, pulling, or straining with the arms for 6 wks.  There will be dressing changes for approximately 1 to 3 weeks.

Q.    Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?

A.    Any patient who desires her breasts to be higher, and potentially larger.   I see a lot of mothers who have lost some lift and volume of the breasts, secondary to breast feeding.

Q.    Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?

A.    Risks involve bleeding, infection, scar formation, breast asymmetry, need for further surgery, post-operative mammographic changes, and changes in nipple/areolar sensation.

Q.    How long do the results last?

A.    Results are very patient dependent.  This depends on the elasticity (stretch) of the skin and weight of the breast tissue. Typically, results last from 5 to 10 years.  Wearing a comfortable bra at night will also help prolong results.

Q.    How much does breast lift surgery cost?

A.   Breast lift surgery can run the gamet from $6,000  to $10,000, depending on if we need to lift the tissues and add implants.  This is inclusive of anesthesia and operating room costs. Liposuction, also known as fat suction, suction lipectomy, tumescent liposuction, ultrasound assisted Lipoplasty or power assisted liposuction, is a technique to remove unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body, including the face, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs; and the knees, calves and ankles.

Liposuction is not a substitute for weight reduction, but a method of removing localized fat that doesn't respond to dieting and exercise. Liposuction can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. 

Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them us. The best candidates for liposuction are of relatively normal weight but have pockets of excess fat in particular areas. You should be physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in your expectations. 

Most important, having firm, elastic skin will result in a better final contour. (Hanging skin won't reshape to your body's new contours, and may require an additional procedure to surgically remove the excess skin.) 

Suction lipectomy is not recommended if you've had recent surgery on the spot to be sculpted, if you have poor blood circulation in that area, or if you have heart or lung disease. You should also understand that liposuction by itself will not improve the dimpling skin know as cellulite.

Scars from liposuction are small and strategically placed to be hidden from view, even in a bikini. However, other cosmetic problems may occur. They may include rippling or bagginess of the skin over the treated area, and pigmentation changes that may become permanent if exposed to the sun. Asymmetry (uneven contour or shape) sometimes requires a second procedure. 

Suction-assisted Lipectomy is a highly effective technique for giving you a new body contour with very little scarring. The results can be permanent, providing you eat sensibly and exercise regularly. If you do gain weight, you'll probably gain it more uniformly throughout your body, not just in the former bulges.

How does Restylane work?

Hyaluronic acid is moldable, making it one of the most popular lip augmentation procedures. Your own fat can be used to augment thin lips. Fat is first removed with a small needle or cannula (liposuction) from a fatty area like the buttocks. The fat is then transferred to the lips and reinjected using a local anesthesia or sedation technique.

Q. What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a technique of removal of fatty tissue from the skin.  It has been a known plastic surgery procedure for many years.  There are many techniques used today.  The original technique of liposuction involved the injection of saline fluid and local anesthesia into the fatty compartment and allowing it to dwell.  The surgeon then places a thin canula or tube under the skin through a small incision and a vacuum is used to suction the fatty tissue out. This technique is called tumescent liposuciton. Another technique called ultrasound liposuction came along and it is involved in using heat to melt the fat cells and then suctioning out the fatty oils.  This is not used much today. Another technique that is new is called:  Smart Lipo.  This is a laser probe that goes under the skin and breaks the fat cells open.  The contents of the fat cells are then removed or allowed to become absorbed by the body. 

Q. Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

Each patient can be assessed to see if they meet the criteria. The patient must be healthy and under 60 years of age. The skin should have good tone and texture.  The patient must be in good overall health and be able to drink plenty of fluids after the procedure.  Time for recovery is needed also.

Q. What are the risks associated with liposuction surgery?

There are risks associated with all surgery procedures. The main risks involve fluid shifts in the body and possibility of dehydration and electrolyte disorders. 

Q. What technique will the surgeon use to perform the liposuction?

The technique the surgeon chooses depends on the equipment available and the training of that particular surgeon. 

Q. How long is the recovery period? 

The initial recovery period is usually about one week.  After the first week most patients can return to work and perform their daily activities. The results after liposuction do not become evident for many months. This is due to swelling of the tissues. Patients are instructed to wear a tight compression garment for many weeks after the procedure. 

Q. Are the results of liposuction permanent? 

Yes the results are permanent. The patient is born with a finite amount of fat cells and by removing some of the fatty tissue, the results are permanent. 

Q. How much does liposuction surgery cost?

The cost depends on the amount of fat to be removed and the time it takes to perform the procedure. A typical patient has 2-3 areas of liposuction done at one time.  The cost range is: $3000-6000.

When a breast augmentation procedure fails to achieve the desired aesthetic results, patients facing revision surgery may feel anxious and powerless- with no control of their own body or appearance.
